Grace teaches a lively, sweaty, and FUN class emphasizing living your life fully and not taking yourself too seriously. Her classes will challenge you and yet release stuff inside... you'll see that yoga goes beyond the poses - there's more - the stuff underneath - that's where the real yoga is.

Grace's yoga journey began in 2000 by attending a yoga class on a whim thinking it would be a boring hour of breathing and stretching. Instead she found herself challenged - body, mind and soul. Instantly addicted, she has been practicing ever since. In 2006, Grace started teaching and spreading the yoga joy! Grace spent her childhood in Houston and has been living in Sugar Land since 2004. She is a wife to a super-tolerant husband and a mother to two energetic boys. Her original career path was climbing the corporate ladder in the field of human resources for over 15 years, and after having two of the cutest boys you'll ever meet, Grace decided to take her passion to the next level and opened Awakened Yoga Studio in Sugar Land in early 2010. It's been a passionate whirlwind ever since!

Grace has completed trainings with a variety of teachers including Baron Baptiste and Ana Forest. Her primary style of teaching is power vinyasa flow but she's been known to teach anything from restorative to Ashtanga! She has also been leading teacher trainings since 2011.

"Believe in something big. Your life is worth a noble motive." - Walter Anderson
Growing up in the small town of Needville, Tx, Heather was first introduced to yoga by a Denise Austin DVD. She didn't know what chatarunga meant, but knew it was fun to say. Being an athlete most of her life, she found the space to be, breath, and move in harmony with her body a wonderful yet scary change from the performance based activities. Heather's goal in teaching is to create a clear non-judgmental space for her students to tune in, breath deep, and move with gratitude and acceptance. Her passion for correct alignment, and creative sequences shines in all of her classes.

She started her practice at Awakened Yoga in 2014. After about a month of feeling awkward, she settled into this beautiful love story with her body, mind, and soul. Fine tuned focus, tension and pain relief, easier breathing, blossoming self love, and most of all space to create her best self all came into the picture.

After about a year of practicing at AY, Heather enjoyed the practice, atmosphere and students so much, she started working the front desk on the side for funsies. She then went on to finish her 200 HR R-YTT in early 2017 at Awakened Yoga Studio, where she enjoys giving back the goodness that has been received through this Divine practice.

Now Heather is the happy manager of the studio.

She encourages staying in tune with your inner drum, letting yoga meet you where you are at, and together forming a harmonious song.
Amanda finished her yoga instructor training earlier this year and is also certified to teach SUP yoga. Off the mat, she is a Montessori teacher, working with children (18-36 months ) for the last 9 years. "Bringing yoga into my classroom was my research project and I was amazed at how the children took to it, they wanted to do it, they asked to do it. I truly believe the breath of life and how to use it should be taught very early in life. I teach breathing techniques in my class everyday."
Amanda has been practicing yoga for the last ten years. Going through the training was such an amazing and badass experience for her. "Not only did I deepen my practice but my spirituality deepened too. I gained a lot of confidence in myself and was able to let go of the baggage and create space for new positive things in my life."

Yoga has taught her self love and to be OK with her authentic self even if someone doesn't like it. "I've learned that I'm in competition with no one. I have no desire to play the game of being better than anyone. I am simply trying to be better than the person I was yesterday. I'm stoked to be at Awakened Yoga Studio. See you on the mat."
Amber AlMasri is a mom to two boys, yogi, practices Jiu Jitsu, weight lifter, certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, and plant based diet enthusiast. She began practicing yoga just over a year ago after battling chronic physical conditions from years of heavy weight training and running and training for marathons. What she found when she started practicing consistently was that her body healed physically from injuries and stayed strong. In addition to the physical benefits, Amber has also found that yoga has helped her on an emotional and spiritual level as she has learned to carry yoga principles off the mat, as well. She received her 200 hour yoga certification through Awakened Yoga and also holds a certification as a personal trainer and nutrition coach.
Amy spent the first 18 years of her life dreaming of becoming a prima ballerina. It was when she realized that wasn’t practical, that she found yoga. She began practicing Hatha Yoga in college, and in 2000, fell in love with Bikram Yoga. She graduated her 9 week intensive training in Los Angeles in 2002, and opened her own studio in Sugar Land in 2006, which she maintained until 2013, when she decided that her time was better served taking care of her six little munchkins at home. These days, Amy is thrilled to bring Hot Yoga to AY, and when she’s not chasing after her husband and kids, or sticking her nose in a book, you can find her working on her newest yoga love, vinyasa flow!
Jamie started working at the studio in August 2011 after being a stay-at-home mom for 15 years. She began her practice at Awakened Yoga in January 2011 and decided to join the team after Grace posed the question: “Do you want to work barefoot?” Upon hearing that question, Jamie jumped at the chance to discover her love of people, yoga and retail. She has lived in the Sugar Land/Missouri City area for over 25 years and is married with two kids in college. Jamie serves an instructor & front desk guru.   She loves sharing her love of yoga and chatting with clients.
Janette is a native Houstonian. She grew up in Southwest Houston and graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. She moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she worked as a bedside nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Janette’s interest in patient and family-centered care was a natural fit, leading her to become involved in bereavement care. Janette returned to Houston and took a break from nursing in order to start a family. She has two beautiful children, Lucy and Joshua. When her kids entered school, Janette began her journey back into fitness through kickboxing and jiu-jitsu, eventually discovering yoga. Inspired by her fitness instructors, she completed the Yoga Teacher Training at Awakened Yoga Studio in Spring 2017. Janette’s interests outside of yoga and jiu-jitsu are creating vegetable-based smoothies, learning other forms of martial arts (Eskrima and Jeet Kune Do), promoting women’s self defense, and painting with acrylics.
Jeffrey believes that yoga has the power to reduce stress and promote physical healing. He teaches a class that focuses on breath and well-being, while still providing opportunities for improvements in strength and flexibility. He offers a simple approach to make progress accessible to the intermediate student. Jeffrey hopes to make it as easy as possible for people to discover the benefits of yoga. Jeffrey took his first yoga class in 2006, not realizing that vinyasa would soon become an integral part of his life. He received his 200-hour RYT certification from Awakened Yoga in 2014. He has experience working as a personal trainer, is a proficient kick-boxer, and is learning gymnastics. Jeffrey received a BS in Engineering Science from Trinity University in 2007. His passions for athleticism and longevity have made him an ongoing student of nutrition.
